One of my favorite scriptures is Proverbs 15:23. It talks about what a wonderful thing it is when a word is given in the right season. I always hope when I say something that my words are timely. That I'll show someone love at a time when they really needed it, or told a joke on a day someone really needed to laugh. I know I appreciate a timely word when it comes my way.
The last few ...well forever it seems, I've been having car trouble. With a car that is 20 years old - that isn't an entirely un expected thing... but lately it's definitely been stressing me out. I know that God has been insanely faithful when it came to my cars in the past - I've had more mechanical miracles than I can count and yet I still haven't quiiiiite learned how to give God a problem and let him fix it, without coming back 86 times to try and fix it myself again. I hope I get a handle on this soon. Life is SOOO much easier when you trust God with stuff. - He always works things out for the good, so why spend the time in the waiting room freaking out? *shakes head* Silly Christy.
So in the interest of timely words and learning how to let stuff be and not stress... I offer this message that came in my email just this weekend. And I can say Proverbs 15:23 still holds true: "Congenial conversation—what a pleasure! The right word at the right time—beautiful!"
When worry comes knocking on your door, stop it on the doorstep or it will move in and take up residence. 'Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you' (1 Peter 5:7NIV). God cares about the things that worry you and prey upon your thoughts. He cares about them more than you do. Not one nagging, aching, worrisome, gut-wrenching, blood-pressure-raising thought escapes His notice. Because 'you are his personal concern', He watches over you day and night. What qualifies as a worry? Anything that robs you of joy, anything you can't change, anything you're not responsible for, anything you're unable to control, anything that torments you, anything that keeps you awake when you should be asleep. All of that 'stuff' needs to be transferred from your worry list to your prayer list.
The Bible says, 'Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God's peace… ' (Philippians 4:6-7NLT). Give each worry, one by one, to God. The more you practice doing this, the more exciting your walk with Him will become. You'll be amazed at how easily He handles things that overwhelm you. Remind yourself that He's able to handle it, willing to handle it, and waiting for you to give it to Him. 'Cast your burden on the Lord, and He shall sustain you.' Those who live worry free are those who keep casting their burdens on the Lord until it becomes as natural to them as breathing!
